Question: Discuss about the Controlled Systems for Theory and Design. Answer: Introduction The main requirement of the report is to design a Kiosk interface for the customer that would help them to search books from the book store. There are thousands of books available in the store and it is a lengthy process for the shopkeeper to find the appropriate book and organize them. Thus the application is used for searching the book and tell the shopkeeper about the preference of the customer and the location of the book. If the book is not found a message is shown to the customer and the relevant books are displayed. The system would help to keep the records of the customer and provide more discount to the loyal customer and improve the relationship between the customer and the business. A user friendly simple interface is designed for the user such that it would be easy for all levels of customer to use the kiosk system. Description and Justification The system interface consists of the inputs and the outputs that are required for the proper working of the system. Framework sources of info are ordinarily inputs caught naturally by such unique information gadgets as scanners, electronic messages to or from another framework, or exchanges caught by another framework (Confrey Maloney, 2015). Framework yields are considered framework interfaces in the event that they fundamentally send messages or data to different frameworks. Additionally, included are printed frames in this class since they don't require human cooperation with the framework (Vaishnavi Kuechler, 2015). Such things as month to month charging explanations that are printed, machine collapsed, and emails sent to the customers. The user interface is defined as the interface that links the user with the system and the hardware. The user interface is data sources that binds the user with the system directy (Endsley, 2016). Their plan fluctuates generally relying upon such variables as interface reason, client attributes, and qualities of a particular interface gadget. Understanding system interface Centered design for the user- Appropriate design techniques are applied for the designing of the user interface for the entire kiosk system (Wylie, Harvey Liddy, 2016). Focus should be given on the users for the development of the system. Usability- different group of customer should find it easy to use the developed interface (Johnson, 2013). The developed system should be simple and responsive such that the user does not faces any conflict using the system. Metaphors- the user can interact with the objects displayed on the kiosk system, the user can input their preference, and the system responds according to the query (Wasson, 2015). Natural sequence of interactions is used for designing and the final design must be tested before implementation in the real life project. The following items are considered during the designing of the interface of the bookshop application. Colour and sections: The deep and bold colours are used for designing the interface and attract the user for using the system. The colors are use to differentiate the sections and categorized the books for making it easy for the user to find the book the user is searching. Layout of the Screen: The design is made for 390 * 762 resolution of an android device used for the Kiosk service. The system can be used for 5.5 inch to 7-inch android devices because high resolution images are used and it would not get pixilated. Help Function: The help button on the home screen of the Kiosk application would show the demonstration of the usability of the application. The users finding difficulty can seek help of the help function to learn about using the system. Order: The orders of the user is taken as an input and stored in the database of the application. The discount offered to the customer on the particular order is calculated in background and displayed to the customer. The percentage of discount depends on the type of customer and the amount of purchase he had made before. Use of Icon: Bold icons and images are used in the application for making it interactive and user friendly. The icon displays the working of the button and enhances the simplicity of the application. Use of Input device: The default keyboard of the android is used as an input device. Using the keyboard and google voice the user can input correct data and search relevant books from the website. Overall Layout: The application designed have a home page where the new books that have arrived are shown. The user can choose the book or search the book that they want from the website or search the book they want. The user have to log in or register into the application for getting details and checking out. The user history, profile details, location of the book shop and discounts provided can be fetched after logging into the user account. Standards employed: The interface of the Kiosk application is designed maintaining the designing standards. The design is kept simple for faster response time. The search engine can be accessed after entering the store and it does an appropriate search and produces the result immediately. HTML5, CSS and a responsive web design methodology is used for designing the interface. The interface of the kiosk application is designed to take input from the user via the chiclet keyboard, touch screen and Google voice. The Google voice is implemented because some of the user may face difficulty to access the touch screen for the placement of the device and less effective touch response. The system interface is designed for a screen size of 5.5 inch to 7 inch devices. High resolution text images are used for the design such that it not gets pixilated. The instruction video is always played on the device until it is accessed by the user. The user can also play the video one accessing the device from tapping the help button placed on the home screen of the interface design. Theories and Principles Used for Designing the interface The theories and principle used for designing the interface of the Kiosk of book shop are as follows: Principle of structure: The user interface must be organized purposefully such that all the related thins are kept together and separating the unrelated things (Balanis, 2016). The structure principle states the working of the overall system and resembling the components one another. Simplicity principle: The design should be kept simple and display more number of information in a page to reduce the navigation of the user Visibility principle: The all the important options should be placed on the front page and the user must not be distracted to extraneous and redundant information (Astrom Wittenmark, 2013). A good user interface design consists of less use of alternatives and must not confuse the user. Feedback principle: The user should be informed about the action he has taken. The change of condition or state and errors occurring due to wrong input of user information should be made clear to the user (Balanis, 2016). The pop up messages can be used for providing feedback to the user. Tolerance principle: The interface design ought to be adaptable and tolerant, diminishing the cost of slip-ups and abuse by permitting fixing and re-trying, while likewise anticipating blunders (Kelly, Lesh Baek, 2014). Wherever conceivable by enduring modified data sources and successions and by translating every sensible activity. Reuse principle: The internal and external component should be reused and maintain the consistency of the application to be developed (Saaty Kearns, 2014). Reusing the components helps the developer to rethink and remember of the previous interface design. Conclusion From the above report on the development of the system interface design of kiosk system of a book shop it can be concluded that the proposed design would be helpful for improving the customer service. A better customer relationship can be maintained with the application of the system interface Kiosk service. The records of the customer can be stored in the database and discount can be provided based on the books the customer have purchased before.
