Film and the Emirates When will the Arabs take the chance Free Essays
Why do we need to set our films in United Arab Emirates? Such a simple question but with a vague answer. No matter how much we try to understand and analyze it, maybe we will have a hard time figuring out why there is a need to go in a place where almost everything is prohibited but in the end, this question will not be raised unless we donââ¬â¢t understand what the situation is in United Arab Emirates and how good their film industry goes. Seeking how good the industry in the Emirates is not as hard as it seems but the way they see film does not seem to be in a good way. We will write a custom essay sample on Film and the Emirates: When will the Arabs take the chance? or any similar topic only for you Order Now Perhaps they have been concerned with their personal feelings and not with what will attract the foreign people in their land. Although the government was only trying to protect their country from controversies and unjust exposure, they were not making things easier for the producers and film makers who wanted to portray reality. Apparently, there were no such good movies in the Arabs. Not that they produce ugly films but because they limit themselves from the great possibilities and stories which will make a big hit in their film industry. They donââ¬â¢t see the possibility of having big hit movies but they also seem to mislead people from reality. Since the government does not allow political plots nor do they want controversial stories, they choose the foreign films that they want the people to see carefully and once they werenââ¬â¢t satisfied in a single shot because of either a controversial topic or maybe because the makers showed the country in a poor way. They tend to give a scrutinizingly critic every foreign film, aligning everything with their goal of giving a good impression to the people. Attempts to have a better film industry Despite of the current situation of film in the Emirates, there were few attempts that shows how good films were in the Emirates. They seldom consider film as a way of making their industry better but at this point, the Emirates is ready to finally open their doors if we will consider their moves as of the moment. In June 2008, a digital film archive of the Emirates history was seen by the people. Although much of these films were documentaries about the history of the Emirates, this step showed that they were indeed ready for a revamp and change in their film industry. In present, Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage was asked to develop a film commission with an order to promote Abu Dhabi as a film location. These attempts to open the doors for foreign films were great steps to have a better film industry and to promote the country as well but if people mislead their real intention, they might blew everything away and end up with nothing but just Emirates, their people and their film industry. Foreign Films Shot in the Emirates: Censorship and Defense In the last four years, Emirates allowed at least two foreign films to be shot in Abu Dhabi. After the shoot, the Emirates government carefully analyzed Syriana and The Kingdom to the extent that several scenes were deleted from the original film. This kind of censorship that the authority made spoiled the whole story but as their defense, they just donââ¬â¢t want to Abu Dhabi to be depicted poorly since they were actually working on tourism as of the moment. The question we have right now, is Emirates ready for opening its doors to the world film industry? Maybe not, maybe yes. The two films shot in Abu Dhabi in the last four years showed that there was indeed a strong will to start opening their doors for the foreign film industry. Closing the doors once more? Perhaps there was no reason for us to worry more about the film industry of the United Arab Emirates because they were surely having good movies with them because of the hard work of the people who wanted development and changes but in this case, what we were trying to work out is the realization that they need to open their doors more to let the foreign people see what is good inside their country. Despite of their attempts to do this, their beliefs still goes in the way. Promoting their land as a location for foreign films do not need strict censorship most of the time. In present, they were trying to attract foreign film makers not trying to place negative impression on them. If they want foreign film industry in their land, perhaps they are in need of considering reality and not mischiefs. In what they were trying to do, United Arab Emirates was really close in closing their doors from the people. Films werenââ¬â¢t made to deceive people. It was a way to make people see what is reality. How to cite Film and the Emirates: When will the Arabs take the chance?, Papers
The Brass Button free essay sample
Arvada, with its commonly mispronouncedsecond a, is a fairly unremarkable suburban city with unmistakablecow-town roots and a general, somewhat depressing, conservative aura. Ishould, however, give it credit for its rather cozy, safe environmentwhich caused my family to settle in its ranch-style housing. Not tomention that the school system is incredible and community involvementis the norm, but the lack of diversity is sickening (its 93.2%Caucasian). Dont get me wrong, I love this town, but some things aboutit depress me. This is why I am semi-relieved to declare that the personwho has most influenced the way I view life is an old Chinese womanwhose name I never even knew. My childhood was spent in a crampedduplex with a chain-link fence separating it from a graffiti-plasteredplayground with park benches cemented to empty sidewalks. Often, I wouldcarry my bike on my shoulder as I jumped the fence and then ride themakeshift bike trails. We will write a custom essay sample on The Brass Button or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page I would see her sitting on one of thosepark benches watching me. Little did she know I was watching her too.She had a tight face and, to be honest, it took me months to decidewhether she was a woman or a man. Yet once I looked into her eyes, Iknew. On her seemingly hairless head, she always wore a faded turquoisecap, but her most noticeable garment was a heavy, ratty purple coat withmany clasps and ridiculously long pockets. Whether it was a hundreddegrees or a blinding blizzard, she wore that coat. At first Ionly saw her in the park, but not long after our first meeting, I beganto notice her everywhere. I spotted her walking around town. To beperfectly honest, I grew a bit nervous and slightly troubled by hercontinuous presence wherever I turned. Yet, after observing her day-inand day-out, I developed an affinity for seeing her as we drove aroundthe neighborhood. I realized that I needed to know this old lady. Iwanted to know more about her, hear her stories and discover why she wasalways so eager to take a walk around our boring neighborhoods ofArvada. I began to notice her unusual habits while on theplayground with my sister. Strangely, she would toddle about picking upjunk and shoving it into her bottomless pockets, be it squashed aluminumcans, pieces of glass or even cracked lighters, she would keep them. Icould not understand why anyone would want such trash. But, then Iremembered that this old lady was far from ordinary, and, after a longtime, I gathered the courage to meet this spectacularindividual. She was huddled on that same ancient park benchwatching the children push each other down the slide when I took a seatnext to her. Hello, I mumbled. She seemed torecognize the word as she turned her wrinkled face toward me. She smiledand so did I. She breathed deeply, as if to start a monologue, and thenbegan speaking in Mandarin. I was devastated that I could not understandher. My dreams of hearing her tales were shattered, yet I continued tolisten to her speak out of courtesy. Suddenly, she grasped my hand, reached into her pocket and pulled out a beautiful brass button. Sheplaced it in my palm and closed my hand. Smiling and keeping eyecontact, she pointing to the emerald leaves of the surrounding trees, closed her eyes, and listened to the birds. Then she stood, bowed andwalked away from the bench, stopping to pick a purple daisy. Finally, she looked back at me, smiled, and walked away. I sat for amoment, examining the brass button, so simple with its round shape, yetso complex with its intertwining patterns. And then it hit me, themessage she was trying to convey. The reason she walked around town wasbecause she knew how to appreciate life, and the reason she picked upher treasures on the streets was that she loved the simple things. Myheart suddenly acknowledged the true meaning of life. This amazing oldwoman taught me what we are here for: to live life to its fullest and tolove it while we can. I now appreciate the small things in life and liveeach day as if it were my last. I am one with nature and treasuresimplicity. I wish I could have thanked her for opening my eyes, but Inever got the chance. Although my old friend has long since passed on,her legacy lives with me, purple coat and all.

Controlled Systems Theory and Design
Question: Discuss about the Controlled Systems for Theory and Design. Answer: Introduction The main requirement of the report is to design a Kiosk interface for the customer that would help them to search books from the book store. There are thousands of books available in the store and it is a lengthy process for the shopkeeper to find the appropriate book and organize them. Thus the application is used for searching the book and tell the shopkeeper about the preference of the customer and the location of the book. If the book is not found a message is shown to the customer and the relevant books are displayed. The system would help to keep the records of the customer and provide more discount to the loyal customer and improve the relationship between the customer and the business. A user friendly simple interface is designed for the user such that it would be easy for all levels of customer to use the kiosk system. Description and Justification The system interface consists of the inputs and the outputs that are required for the proper working of the system. Framework sources of info are ordinarily inputs caught naturally by such unique information gadgets as scanners, electronic messages to or from another framework, or exchanges caught by another framework (Confrey Maloney, 2015). Framework yields are considered framework interfaces in the event that they fundamentally send messages or data to different frameworks. Additionally, included are printed frames in this class since they don't require human cooperation with the framework (Vaishnavi Kuechler, 2015). Such things as month to month charging explanations that are printed, machine collapsed, and emails sent to the customers. The user interface is defined as the interface that links the user with the system and the hardware. The user interface is data sources that binds the user with the system directy (Endsley, 2016). Their plan fluctuates generally relying upon such variables as interface reason, client attributes, and qualities of a particular interface gadget. Understanding system interface Centered design for the user- Appropriate design techniques are applied for the designing of the user interface for the entire kiosk system (Wylie, Harvey Liddy, 2016). Focus should be given on the users for the development of the system. Usability- different group of customer should find it easy to use the developed interface (Johnson, 2013). The developed system should be simple and responsive such that the user does not faces any conflict using the system. Metaphors- the user can interact with the objects displayed on the kiosk system, the user can input their preference, and the system responds according to the query (Wasson, 2015). Natural sequence of interactions is used for designing and the final design must be tested before implementation in the real life project. The following items are considered during the designing of the interface of the bookshop application. Colour and sections: The deep and bold colours are used for designing the interface and attract the user for using the system. The colors are use to differentiate the sections and categorized the books for making it easy for the user to find the book the user is searching. Layout of the Screen: The design is made for 390 * 762 resolution of an android device used for the Kiosk service. The system can be used for 5.5 inch to 7-inch android devices because high resolution images are used and it would not get pixilated. Help Function: The help button on the home screen of the Kiosk application would show the demonstration of the usability of the application. The users finding difficulty can seek help of the help function to learn about using the system. Order: The orders of the user is taken as an input and stored in the database of the application. The discount offered to the customer on the particular order is calculated in background and displayed to the customer. The percentage of discount depends on the type of customer and the amount of purchase he had made before. Use of Icon: Bold icons and images are used in the application for making it interactive and user friendly. The icon displays the working of the button and enhances the simplicity of the application. Use of Input device: The default keyboard of the android is used as an input device. Using the keyboard and google voice the user can input correct data and search relevant books from the website. Overall Layout: The application designed have a home page where the new books that have arrived are shown. The user can choose the book or search the book that they want from the website or search the book they want. The user have to log in or register into the application for getting details and checking out. The user history, profile details, location of the book shop and discounts provided can be fetched after logging into the user account. Standards employed: The interface of the Kiosk application is designed maintaining the designing standards. The design is kept simple for faster response time. The search engine can be accessed after entering the store and it does an appropriate search and produces the result immediately. HTML5, CSS and a responsive web design methodology is used for designing the interface. The interface of the kiosk application is designed to take input from the user via the chiclet keyboard, touch screen and Google voice. The Google voice is implemented because some of the user may face difficulty to access the touch screen for the placement of the device and less effective touch response. The system interface is designed for a screen size of 5.5 inch to 7 inch devices. High resolution text images are used for the design such that it not gets pixilated. The instruction video is always played on the device until it is accessed by the user. The user can also play the video one accessing the device from tapping the help button placed on the home screen of the interface design. Theories and Principles Used for Designing the interface The theories and principle used for designing the interface of the Kiosk of book shop are as follows: Principle of structure: The user interface must be organized purposefully such that all the related thins are kept together and separating the unrelated things (Balanis, 2016). The structure principle states the working of the overall system and resembling the components one another. Simplicity principle: The design should be kept simple and display more number of information in a page to reduce the navigation of the user Visibility principle: The all the important options should be placed on the front page and the user must not be distracted to extraneous and redundant information (Astrom Wittenmark, 2013). A good user interface design consists of less use of alternatives and must not confuse the user. Feedback principle: The user should be informed about the action he has taken. The change of condition or state and errors occurring due to wrong input of user information should be made clear to the user (Balanis, 2016). The pop up messages can be used for providing feedback to the user. Tolerance principle: The interface design ought to be adaptable and tolerant, diminishing the cost of slip-ups and abuse by permitting fixing and re-trying, while likewise anticipating blunders (Kelly, Lesh Baek, 2014). Wherever conceivable by enduring modified data sources and successions and by translating every sensible activity. Reuse principle: The internal and external component should be reused and maintain the consistency of the application to be developed (Saaty Kearns, 2014). Reusing the components helps the developer to rethink and remember of the previous interface design. Conclusion From the above report on the development of the system interface design of kiosk system of a book shop it can be concluded that the proposed design would be helpful for improving the customer service. A better customer relationship can be maintained with the application of the system interface Kiosk service. The records of the customer can be stored in the database and discount can be provided based on the books the customer have purchased before. The system would also help to record the transaction details of the customer and send a soft copy of the transaction details to the customer registered email id. References Astrom, K. A History of the Eiffel Tower
A History of the Eiffel Tower The Eiffel Tower is the most visually famous structure in France, perhaps in Europe, and has seen over 200 million visitors. Yet it wasnââ¬â¢t supposed to be permanent and the fact it still stands is down to a willingness to accept new technology which was how the thing came to be built in the first place. Origins of the Eiffel Tower In 1889 France held the Universal Exhibition, a celebration of modern achievement timed to coincide with the first centenary of the French Revolution. The French government held a competition to design an ââ¬Å"iron towerâ⬠to be erected at the entrance to the exhibition on the Champ-de-Mars, partly to create an impressive experience for visitors. One hundred and seven plans were submitted, and the winner was one by engineer and entrepreneur Gustav Eiffel, aided by architect Stephen Sauvestre and engineers Maurice Koechlin and Emile Nouguier. They won because they were willing to innovate and create a true statement of intent for France. The Eiffel Tower Eiffelââ¬â¢s tower was to be unlike anything yet built: 300 meters tall, at that time the highest man-made structure on earth, and built of a latticework of wrought iron, a material whose large scale production is now synonymous with the industrial revolution. But the design and nature of the material, making use of metal arches and trusses, meant the tower could be light and ââ¬Å"see-throughâ⬠, rather than a solid block, and retain still its strength. Its construction, which began on January 26th 1887, was swift, relatively cheap and achieved with a small workforce. There were 18,038 pieces and over two million rivets. The Tower is based on four large pillars, which form a square 125 meters along each side, before rising up and joining into a central tower. The curving nature of the pillars meant the elevators, which were themselves a relatively recent invention, had to be carefully designed. There are viewing platforms at several levels, and people can travel to the top. Parts of the great curves are actually purely aesthetic. The structure is painted (and re-painted regularly). Opposition and Skepticism The Tower is now considered a historical milestone in design and construction, a masterpiece for its day, the start of a new revolution in building. At the time, however, there was opposition, not least from people horrified at the aesthetic implications of such a large structure on the Champ-de-Mars. On February 14th 1887, while construction was ongoing, a statement of complaint was issued by ââ¬Å"personalities from the world of arts and lettersâ⬠. Other people were skeptical that the project would work: this was a new approach, and that always brings problems. Eiffel had to fight his corner but was successful and the tower went ahead. Everything would rest on whether the structure actually worked... The Opening of the Eiffel Tower On March 31st, 1889 Eiffel climbed to the top of the tower and hoisted a French flag at the top, opening the structure; various notables followed him up. It remained the highest building in the world until the Chrysler building was finished in New York in 1929, and is still the tallest structure in Paris. The building and planning was a success, with the tower impressing. Lasting Impact The Eiffel Tower was originally designed to stand for twenty years but has lasted over a century, thanks partly to Eiffelââ¬â¢s willingness to use the tower in experiments and innovations in wireless telegraphy, allowing the mounting of antennas. Indeed, the Tower was at one point due to be torn down but remained after it began broadcasting signals. In 2005 this tradition was continued when Parisââ¬â¢ first digital television signals were broadcast from the Tower. However, since its construction the Tower has achieved a lasting cultural impact, first as a symbol of modernity and innovation, then as of Paris and France. Media of all sorts has used the Tower. Its almost inconceivable that anyone would try to knock down the tower now, as its one of the most famous structures in the world and an easy marker for films and television to use.

Introduction To Psychology Example
Introduction To Psychology Example Introduction To Psychology ââ¬â Coursework Example Introduction To Psychology Learning is the process of change in the behavioral pattern that results while acquiring knowledge and experience. As one does more he gains more experience and in turn he learns more. As Pablo Picasso once famously said ââ¬Å"I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it.â⬠There are three types or patterns of learning. These are Conditional learning, Operant learning and Observational learning. In observational learning the observer learns from how the models actions are reinforced or punished. He himself is not affected and learns by observing and imitating. In operant learning one learns directly from his own actions and its repercussions, be it reinforcement or punishment. Classical learning is based on stimulus and response. Its a passive form of learning where the learners response is elicited. There is no reinforcement or punishment. All these forms of learning can be followed in our daily lives starting fro m raising children to training animals to solving problems. Problem solving skill can be developed in a special way if one follows the observational learning method. If one is faced with a problem one can always observe how others have reacted to a similar situation and take note of the positive results and try to imitate them. It may not always give the desired result but as in operant learning you learn from the punishments too. I grew up in a household where my parents mostly followed the operant style of learning. Desired results almost always brought in reinforcements in the form of praise or surprise small gifts and undesired actions mostly resulted in instant punishments. That have definitely helped me to learn the differences between right and wrong, however I found my parents a tad too strict. So, as a parent I would like to follow a style consisting of both operant and observational learning methods. Punishment without actually being abusive when a child acts in an undesir able way will teach the child what is wrong and so chances of repetition are less. However the punishment should be consistent every time the child commits the mistake. Again when the child does a commendable work he should be reinforced so he is inspired to repeat the good act. Punishment works best when balanced with rewards or reinforcements. Similarly observational behavior works well when the parent becomes the role model and consciously perform the desired actions. The child who sees the respect his parent garners from others will automatically start imitating the parent and follow the footsteps. As a famous English proverb goes ââ¬Å"actions speak louder than wordsâ⬠(old English proverb) so will the parents action speak too. According to me a healthy mix of operant conditioning and observational style will create good parenting skills and in turn a happy child.

Relationship between irritable bowel syndrome and stress Research Paper
Relationship between irritable bowel syndrome and stress - Research Paper Example It is known that the specific alterations in the body caused from stress directly impact the brain and the nervous system, which links to the gastrointestinal system and causes complexities with the digestive system. The examination of whether stress causes IBS and to which extent can then lead to more holistic methods of helping individuals that are suffering from IBS. Irritable Bowel Syndrome, also known as IBS, is one of the most common non ââ¬â infectious gastrointestinal disorders (Pelissier, Danzter, Canini, 2010, 653). The problems associated with this create cramping, abdominal pain, bloating, constipation and diarrhea, all which can create abnormalities in the system (Mayer et al, 2001, p 280). The complexities of IBS are not only associated with the physical discomfort and abnormalities that are in the system. There are also difficulties that are related to the stress levels which individuals carry, all which are directly associated with IBS. It is known that different types of stress affect the triggering effects and the way in which IBS functions. Stress factors include physiological, psychological and physical stressors that occur. These are also associated with emotional motor systems, including automatic, neuroendocrine, attentional and pain modulatory responses (Mayer et al, 2001, p 280). Examining the ways in which IBS links to stress as well as how it is affected with different circuits can then create a deeper understanding of how to treat the main causes associated with IBS and stress. The conditions that are associated with IBS create various levels of reactions among those suffering from the disorder. Understanding how these conditions affect the human body as well as what is associated with the main complexities can provide insight into how this changes the rest of the system. The system and the gastrointestinal area of the body are connected to various systems in the body, which triggers IBS. The conditions and

Discuss Nora Helmer's journey from 'dolly' wife to emanicapted woman Essay
Discuss Nora Helmer's journey from 'dolly' wife to emanicapted woman in ''A Doll's House'' by Ibsen - Essay Example In this situation, Nora is depicted as an extravagant woman who spends a lot of money on Christmas presents and home improvements. Yet the play goes well past such meanings and point of view, so that when all the characters and intensities have appeared during the plot development, the play seems to point to something different from what the readers have supposed at the beginning. The first factor of change is marked by a blackmail form Nils Krogsta. In order to save her husband, Nora lent some money from Nils Krogstad, but he found that Nora forged her dying father's signature. When Nora finds a letter, she matures and understands that the disclosure will cost her love and devotion of her husband and happy family life. As a mature woman, she does everything possible to solve the situation (ask her friend Christine to help her), but fails. In Nora's remarks, readers can find the stages of a repudiation of such a "civilized" development, and this refusal, going deeper than a social responsibility. Though, because social role of the wife is predetermined, Ibsen underlines that Nora feels miserable and depressed. The symbolic meaning of blackmail helps readers to grasp the idea at once shaping atmosphere of the play. Also, this setting contemplates nature, both the natural world around the narrator and her own inner nature. Another unique setting is Torvald's st udy. Before he shuts the door he calls to him" (Ibsen).
